Hip Arthroscopy

Hip arthroscopy is a procedure in which an orthopedic surgeon makes small incisions in the patient’s hip area and inserts a camera so the interior of the joint can be transmitted to a monitor and viewed. Hip arthroscopy can be used to detect and treat many hip-related problems including: labral tears, loose bodies, cartilage damage, and arthritis.

• Hip Dislocation Surgery - A hip dislocation occurs when the thighbone slips out of the hipbone socket. If there is a broken bone, it may need to be fixed with open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) surgery.
• Hip Fracture Surgery - A hip fracture is a serious injury that involves a break in the upper quarter of the femur (thighbone). Depending on the location of the fracture, a pinning procedure or a procedure that involves metal plates and screws will be performed.
• Hip Bursitis Surgery - Hip bursitis is caused by inflammation of a small jelly-like sac known as a bursa. Hip bursitis surgery involves removal of the bursa. The newest technique is arthroscopic removal of the bursa in which removal is done through a small, quarter-inch incision in the hip.
• Hip Osteotomy – A hip osteotomy is a surgical procedure in which the hipbones are cut, realigned, and fixed in a new position. The procedure is usually performed on patients who have developmental conditions such hip dysplasia and those who develop early arthritis of the hip joint.

Hip Replacement Surgery

• Traditional hip replacement surgery involves replacing the hip joint with a prosthetic implant. The surgery can be performed either as a total replacement or a half replacement. Hip replacement surgery is generally conducted to relieve arthritis pain or repair severe joint damage.
• A minimally invasive hip replacement is a surgical technique in which a small surgical (three to six inches long) is used to perform hip replacement surgery. Compared to a traditional hip replacement surgery that requires a 10 to 12 inches long cut, a minimally invasive surgery provides numerous advantages for the patient including less pain, less muscle damage, a smaller scar and faster rehabilitation.
• Hip resurfacing is a surgical alternative to hip replacement in which the damaged ball of the hip – instead of being replaced – is reshaped and capped with a metal prosthesis. The damaged hip socket is also fitted with a metal prosthesis.
